I love logos. Especially sports logos. You can get a real sense of the prevailing social mores when you see what our primitive marketing ancestors thought were enticing "looks" for their products. The Cleveland Indians still get a lot of grief over their politically incorrect, big-toothed "Chief Wahoo", but this early version of Mr. Wahoo from the 40s-50s was pretty harsh. Very similar to the "Injun Joe" character featured in popular Warner Brothers cartoons of the era.
The cute little "cub" doesn't exactly strike fear in the hearts of opponents, but Chicago's baseball team didn't either, so it fit. The Boston Braves' profile of a Native American in full headdress was a little more dignified than Cleveland's, but "Chief Knockahoma" isn't exactly the image in vogue with activists either. Now, the Browns' little gremlin character is very "Tinkerbellish" but, again, the American League's St. Louis franchise finished last quite a bit anyway (despite Bing Crosby's ownership). The "Bernie Brewer" batting beer keg was pretty interesting... leave it to Milwaukee. The St. Louis Browns' cap insignia wasn't bad, and the Los Angeles Angels' program logo featured mention of L.A.'s Wrigley Field, which looked a lot like Chicago's big league version. Of course, the old Pacific Coast League Angels were a Cubs' farm team. The American League Angels played the 1961 season at Wrigley before moving in to the brand new Dodger Stadium where they played until the Big "A" was finished in 1966.
I have tons more to share, keep an eye peeled! (If you know of any good vintage logo sites, drop me a line!)

Oh, That Dandy Andy (Warhola)
A little sketch from this afternoon. Why a portrait of Warhol? I don't know, but here's the process; I was looking at a baseball encyclopedia and kind of feeling nostalgic. I saw a picture of
